Portland’s Hockey have started to tour for their upcoming Debut “Mind Chaos” (Oct.6). With their catchy, driving tunes it’s one of the first sparks in the fall-season. Before they come over for an extensive UK-tour, the quartet is currently stopping in Los Angeles. There, they had a chance to come on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic. Listen to the 40-min show here.
.
Their label has now released a free remix of Hockey’s Too Fake. Unfortunately, it is downloadable only form US-territory. So if you grab it, I’d be more than happy … The track is available here, the password is JCPROCKS. But at least I can leave you with a noteworthy Filthy Dukes mix of Learn To Loose.

Last night I went to see District 9 and I really liked it!
.
This is what a Blockbuster should be. Transformers 2 sucked and GI Joe, well I won’t even bother. It looks awful!
.
District 9 caught me by surprise. Yes, there was action, explosions and cool effects…. but it was also touching and heartbreaking. I felt like I was watching an adults version of E.T. The aliens had personalities that I couldn’t help but feel sorry for. Some are rebellious, some just want to get home and some just want to get by. There’s a deep message in the movie.
.
There’s a lot of violence, blood, heads exploding and body splatters. Cool! Gross! Awesome!
.
I really hope they come out with some action figures. Hopefully the licensing of this movie will realize that it’s going to be a cult classic. I will keep you guys posted if and when I hear of some action figures. But I wouldn’t hold my breath, seeing as no one ever made any figures of Pan’s Labyrinth. Hmph! I wanted to get my hands on Pale Man.
.
In the meantime, here are some cool alien/monster toys that you can purchase on NECA online.

If you haven’t heard already, TerraCycle is making waves and leading the way in alternative thinking about consumption. They take in trash, that people have collected, and they turn it into durable goods, which are then sold in major retail stores (like Wal-Mart). They even give 2 cents to charity for every piece of would-be trash someone sends into them. Schools have especially been using the program as a way to raise funds for their various programs and clubs, because TerraCycle lets you choose where you want your money to be donated to, including public schools.
I love all the unique things they make from our garbage. Everything they come up with is very creative, fashionable, and it allows me to make an easy eco-change to my life. I really believe garbage will soon become the new trend in fashion!
If you want to buy these or see other items TerraCycle has up for grabs… go to shopONLYgreen.com or keep your eyes peeled in Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, Home Depot, Petco, Staples, or even Office Max (Staples Competition, hehe)

Festival time in Switzerland. The Eidgenossenschaft’s probably best known music weeks, the Montreux Jazz Festival, has begun last Friday. For the first half of July, one of the most exclusive festivals I know about offers a quite broad variety of concerts. Although you will find a lot of Jazz in the programme, many entries are not exactly associated. Shakira for instance is closer to Charleston, if anything. But also Prince stops for two shows, Lily Allen is around or Simian Mobile Disco have their night.
.
Passion Pit has simply called the place “heaven” on their blog. They were among the first noteworthy acts within the free concert series of the festival. Nice enough, Montreux offers free shows of acts such as N.A.S.A., The Juan MacLean (DJ-Set), WHOMADEWHO or the Rakes for the less well-heeled.

Later this month, the Blue Balls Festival kicks off in what is probably Switzerland’s most beautiful city, Lucerne. Personal highlight: Antony performing with the Montreux Orchestra in one of Europe’s acustically most sophisticated auditoriums.

Ok, this is AWESOME!!! I’ve been really excited and counting down the days for the release of the Major Lazer album that is set to come out on June 16th.
Well, I guess sometimes when you want something so bad….you get it!
Major Lazer has streamed their entire album on their MySpace page. Check it out right now! Can you say summer jams? Brap! Brap!
I love The Mary Jane track ft. Mr.Evil and Mapei!
Also, check out this toy of Major Lazer, the Jamaican Commando who lost his arm in the secret Zombie War of 1984. Read full story here.
I asked Diplo if they were planning on making more of these cool toys, besides the ones they made for the video and he said “he hopes they can”. I’m going to keep my fingers and toes crossed for this.

I want them all! Major Lazer, The Zombie Vampire, the Mummy…every toy that is in their new Hold The Line video. Check it out!
I have a feeling this won’t be the last time we see some animated Major Lazer. Perhaps an adult cartoon might be heading our way? Hmmm…..

We’ve all heard of synth funk duo Chromeo, 2 steppin and using their fancy footwork to wow the crowds all over, but are these guys Shake Aletti a combo to rival their US counterparts? Hailing from Sheffield in the UK these boys certainly have some skills just jump over to their myspace to take a listen.
The featured track they gave us to share is a new remix of Darling of the Splitscreen (DOTS) fellow friends of the Shake boys. It’s got this sort of cleaning in the kitchen vibe to it, i don’t mean it in a bad way at all. Remember the scene in Mrs Doubtfire with Robbie Williams signing into the hoover rocking around like a loon!? it gets you like that. With this big crunchy keyboard pulsating through the track. Some catchy vocals from DOTS and a smooth guitar riff we have a little gem here.

Big up to the boys, show them love or hate here and let us know what you think

Oh MMMy what do have we here? More Germans engineering sounds that will bounce your head around the room, i think so. Many of you will have heard of deep dubby techno monsters Modeselektor and similar artist Apparat, well they have only gone and combined forces to create a new act = Moderat. To get an idea of what they are all about i suggest you watch the trailer after the jump - Moderat Trailer.
They are signed up to a brilliant label Bpitchcontrol who released Moderat’s self titled album on the 11th May, you can purchase it here. Currently on tour in North America, i think there in San Fran tonight, they are an outstanding act to see live i highly recommend it. For the UK heads Glade Festival is the only chance you’ll get to see them live anytime soon. So check out the tune below and let us know what you think!
Moderat - Les Grand Marches (MMMatthias Remix)
MMMatthias is a well known artist on the blogs with his Royksopp and Bloc Party mixes doing the rounds. This one below is one that may have been missed by a few but for me is one of my favourites. It’s kind of a b-more beat with these dizzy vocals looping over but MMMatthias brings in a bit of tech/reverb and just amplifies the sounds. A really good production.
Database - Miami (MMMatthias ‘1981′ Remix)
Hook him up on his myspace and say Hi!
