This past Monday Kidrobot dropped their Fall look book , which was shot in Scotland by graffiti artist, Tilt. He was also the man responsible for their cool Summer ‘09 look book that was shot in NYC.

.

I must say their Fall collection looks great and the photos are awesome. They have a real Badass feel to them. I can’t wait to get my hands on some new Kidrobot gear!

Tilt is an internationally recognized traditional graffiti artist, originating from Toulouse in South France. You might recall me blogging about him back in May ‘09, when he was working on the Adidas Originals Campaign.

.

I actually had the pleasure of doing a shoot with him back in October ‘08 in Toronto for his next BubbleGirls book, set to come out next year. We have since become good friends.

.

Tilt travels all around the world to work on different art projects and while he’s in a city he will pick one girl to become his BubbleGirl. In which he paints on her body (she chooses what to wear), does a photo shoot and then paints a big graffiti piece of her name in big bubbly letters somewhere in her city. For me he chose a train. Really Cool!

This past Tuesday I received a nice surprise from Tilt in the mail. He sent me a copy of the Gudberg Magazine issue #06 -Spring ‘09 issue, that happened to have 2 photos from my very own BubbleGirls shoot.

Reusing waste materials to create new products is one of the best ways to do your part in being more eco-friendly.  The Environmental Protection Agency reports that the United States produces approximately 220 million tons of garbage each year and each person generates about 4 pounds of garbage a day or about 1,500 pounds a year per person!  That is a lot of waste that just gets thrown together in a landfill to sit for thousands of years.

Etsy is a website that allows you to buy and sell handmade items which cover a wide range including art, photography, clothing, jewelry, edibles, bath & beauty products, and toys.  The best part is, a lot of the items for sale are things made from reused, or “upcycled”, pieces of waste.  When you make something new from something old it is called “upcycle” and when you search for that term on Etsy’s website, you will get over 30,000 results!  Thousands of Etsy members are making, selling, and buying millions of great products that divert tons of garbage from the landfill while also bringing in a little extra cash on the side, and that is always a great thing!

Some of the things for sale include this adorable pink hoodie that is made from old pieces of other hoodies.

Every/Any Bag - $28

Hello Hype Fans!! I’m Eco Emy and this is my first Eco Fashion post on The Hype. FM. I’m a young, recent graduate who loves everything Eco, Fashion, and Art. Currently, I am an intern for a new company called TerraCycle, who makes new things (like cork boards) out of waste items (such as wine corks) and I sometimes get my hands on really cool stuff. Just the other day, I picked up this cute hand bag that is made completely out of candy wrappers! TerraCycle didn’t make the bag, but an awesome company, called Ecoist, makes this and many other bags of all different sizes.

Each bag is handmade and the materials come from recycled candy wrappers, food packaging, soda labels, subway maps, newspapers, and other waste-bound materials. My favorite part about owning one of these bags is that each purse saves a lot of garbage from going into the landfill! The other cool thing about going places with my Ecoist bag is that everyone is impressed with it and they always want to know where they can get one. I love being an Ecoist and I know you will too!

A few days ago I walked by a speaker playing a “noize” that has since sunk its greased down claws deep into my ears:

It reminded me of a stereotype I often encountered while traveling the US. “So you are from Austria/ Germany? Is David Hasselhoff still big over there?” Besides wondering how so many people could really fall for such a questionable quality of music (I can defend some of the eurodance stuff, if I need to. But him?), I started looking for a similar fad making so admiringly much out of so limited talent just between the North Sea and the Alpes.

I pondered for a while, even asked some friends. But on the scale we have seen back then, David Hasselhoff currently looks like a singular event. However, I have two nominations for possible successors:

reamonn James Blunt

Anyway, I still have some serious music to post: Strandhotel Markus, a Swiss upstart, have released a track that has deservedly received greater attention in the region. A few days ago, Brisbane’s YOUTH has come up with a remix you might enjoy:

Strandhotel Markus - Disco! Disco! (Youth Remix Radio Edit)

The original song as well as an extended version of the mix can be found here.

Dim Mak at Urban Outfitters

Dim Mak at Urban Outfitters

I normally wouldn’t post an ad like this, especially when it involves to huge brands like Dim Mak and Urban Outfitters (I doubt they need anymore PR anyway), but I had to make an exception because of what comes along with it.  Dim Mak DJs Fashen and Thee Mike B put together a mix highlighting their favorite tracks by Dim Mak artists (and others) including;  The Bloody Beetroots, MSTRKRFT, Pase Rock, Shinichi Osawa, Machines Don’t Care, Felix Cartal, AutoErotique and Laidback Luke.  Click HERE to download the mix.  Also, don’t forget to check out the new t-shirts available only at UO.
