9 is an animated sci-fi/action film directed by Shane Acker and produced by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, director of Wanted, and stars Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly,Crispin Glover, Martin Landau and Christopher Plummer.

It is based on Acker’s Academy Award-nominated short film of the same name. Although CGI, the movie has a stylized look resembling stop motion.

9 takes place in a world parallel to our own, in which the very legacy of humanity is threatened.

The film has been rated PG-13 for violence and scary images. I’m curious to check this one out.

If you’re in New York City today, go check this out! Kidrobot is doing a “Death to False Vinyl” Rally to protest the Taco Bell rip off toys, that I blogged about yesterday. This week Taco Bell said they were releasing a new “Urban Vinyl Figure” titled BellHedz, and if you compare the two figures you can tell that the Taco Bell figures are a complete ripp-off.

Please tell me this is a joke? Does Taco Bell really think they can get away with this? Clearly they are totally jacking Kidrobot! These little guys practically have the same bodies as the Kidrobot’s “Dunny” and “Munny“. The packaging is the same and they are blind boxed just like the Kidrobot toys. (They come packaged in identical boxes. The boxes are the same in every way and you can not see what is inside.)
The only difference I spot with these vinyl figures are their heads, since they are shaped like bells. Bells! Haha! I get it…Taco Bell, Bellheadz. Brilliant! Original! NOT!

Big brands want to be associated with this street art movement because its a way for them to look cool. You know what’s not cool? Big companies jacking other companies ideas and selling them as their own. That’s WACK!

Check out this New “Knorr Sidekicks” commercial. Doesn’t that salt shaker resemble a Kidrobot Munny as well? Hmmm……….

This is the official music video for Raekwon’s latest single “House of Flying Daggers” from his album “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II” due in stores Sept. 8th, 2009. The single features Inspectah Deck, GZA, Ghostface Killah and Method Man with and intro from RZA, and was produced by J. Dilla.

This cool, violent animated video depicts cartoon versions of Raekwon and his Wu-Tang compatriots as the Five Deadly Venoms . Five Kung fu fighters with unique animal styles: The Centipede, The Snake, The Scorpion, The Lizard and The Toad.

Expect lots of blood, severed spines, brain stompings and killer Kung fu fighting.

Looking at those bloody ninjas reminded me of this wicked Kidrobot Hoodie that came out a few years ago called “Mad Ninja” designed by artist MAD . If you’re lucky, you might be able to track one down on Ebay. It’s limited edition like all Kidrobot garments. Each one has its number out of 256 embroidered on the inside. They feature lined hoods, an interior ipod pocket with a cord loop and button hole for your headphones.

Kidrobot also collaborated with artist MAD to created some cool Mad Ninja Dunny’s, which you can also find on Ebay.

Last night I went to see District 9 and I really liked it!
.
This is what a Blockbuster should be. Transformers 2 sucked and GI Joe, well I won’t even bother. It looks awful!
.
District 9 caught me by surprise. Yes, there was action, explosions and cool effects…. but it was also touching and heartbreaking. I felt like I was watching an adults version of E.T. The aliens had personalities that I couldn’t help but feel sorry for. Some are rebellious, some just want to get home and some just want to get by. There’s a deep message in the movie.

There’s a lot of violence, blood, heads exploding and body splatters. Cool! Gross! Awesome!
.
I really hope they come out with some action figures. Hopefully the licensing of this movie will realize that it’s going to be a cult classic. I will keep you guys posted if and when I hear of some action figures. But I wouldn’t hold my breath, seeing as no one ever made any figures of Pan’s Labyrinth. Hmph! I wanted to get my hands on Pale Man.

This past Monday Kidrobot dropped their Fall look book , which was shot in Scotland by graffiti artist, Tilt. He was also the man responsible for their cool Summer ‘09 look book that was shot in NYC.

I must say their Fall collection looks great and the photos are awesome. They have a real Badass feel to them. I can’t wait to get my hands on some new Kidrobot gear!

Tilt is an internationally recognized traditional graffiti artist, originating from Toulouse in South France. You might recall me blogging about him back in May ‘09, when he was working on the Adidas Originals Campaign.
.
I actually had the pleasure of doing a shoot with him back in October ‘08 in Toronto for his next BubbleGirls book, set to come out next year. We have since become good friends.
.
Tilt travels all around the world to work on different art projects and while he’s in a city he will pick one girl to become his BubbleGirl. In which he paints on her body (she chooses what to wear), does a photo shoot and then paints a big graffiti piece of her name in big bubbly letters somewhere in her city. For me he chose a train. Really Cool!

This past Tuesday I received a nice surprise from Tilt in the mail. He sent me a copy of the Gudberg Magazine issue #06 -Spring ‘09 issue, that happened to have 2 photos from my very own BubbleGirls shoot.

This Gudberg magazine was released on May15th’09, at the Weserburg Museum in Bremen. This collaboration issue with REINKING PROJEKTE featured big names of the international street art scene like Os Gemeos, Banksy, Miss Van, Daniel Man…just to name a few.

There are 4 issues per year, spring, summer, fall and winter. The magazine is limited edition of 2000 copies - once they are gone, they are gone.

Major Lazer just came out with a new video for “Pon De floor”, directed by comedian and music director Eric Wareheim. He is one half of the comedy team for Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! One of my favorite shows on Adult Swim.

Eric’s treatment for the video was only one line “Wayne’s World in the future fighting Predator”.

Haha! I think it’s more like the kids from Left Eye’s video “Block Party“ get some “Daggering” lessons, grow up and throw a house party. (Special appearance from a psychedelic smoke monster)

French electronica duo Daft Punk has been signed to write the original music score for Tron 2.0, Walt Disney’s upcoming sequel to the groundbreaking 1982 animation cult hit which was scored by electronic music icon Wendy Carlos. Daft Punk’s members Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter have been involved in various films before, but Tron 2.0 will be their first complete feature film score. The film, scheduled for a 2011 release, is helmed by Joseph Kosinski and will feature Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett.

And for those of you old school Tron fans, you can still find some of the toys online. You can also find the 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition on DVD. I need to watch it all over again, seeing as I have forgotten a lot of the plot. I think I’ve got a bit of time to catch up. LOL

Tron 2.0 will play as the “next chapter” after the first film, with Wilde starring as one of the heroes trying to help fighting the Master Control Program, the evil intelligence protocol that was the nemesis in the 1982 film.

Reusing waste materials to create new products is one of the best ways to do your part in being more eco-friendly. The Environmental Protection Agency reports that the United States produces approximately 220 million tons of garbage each year and each person generates about 4 pounds of garbage a day or about 1,500 pounds a year per person! That is a lot of waste that just gets thrown together in a landfill to sit for thousands of years.
Etsy is a website that allows you to buy and sell handmade items which cover a wide range including art, photography, clothing, jewelry, edibles, bath & beauty products, and toys. The best part is, a lot of the items for sale are things made from reused, or “upcycled”, pieces of waste. When you make something new from something old it is called “upcycle” and when you search for that term on Etsy’s website, you will get over 30,000 results! Thousands of Etsy members are making, selling, and buying millions of great products that divert tons of garbage from the landfill while also bringing in a little extra cash on the side, and that is always a great thing!

Oh wow! This is becoming more and more of a reality. Here is the trailer for Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland, set to come out March 5th 2009. You can bet your money I’ll be at the midnight screening. Yay! I can’t wait!!!
