TheHype.FM was started with the intention of expanding on the whole “do it yourself” attitude towards music that came with the growing popularity of music blogs; we loved the idea of people writing about, sharing, and promoting music just because they were truly passionate about it.  However, we felt that as great as the blogs were, there is only so much time one could spend actively searching and fishing through posts.  There needed to be something to do while you just sat back and worked/surfed the net/relaxed at home/etc., but also something to expose users to new (and often unreleased or unknown) music, not a program that uses computer algorithms to sift through what is already popular. 

At the same time though, we also wanted to work together with the most influential bloggers and artists who had given us so much inspiration, by giving them another medium to promote great music.   This is when, back in late 2007, the idea for TheHype.FM was born.  

A few of us had FM radio experience, and knew that if we got the right people (artists/bloggers/tastemakers/djs) involved, we could help fill the void that FM radio left when its rapid demise began about a decade ago.  As limited as FM radio’s potential was, it helped build an actual music community with a very personal touch, one thing that seems to be missing from music sharing on the internet.  We hope that with the launch of the new TheHype.FM website and audio/video streams, we can help bring that piece of community and personal touch back to the international music scene and help it grow. 

It doesn’t stop there though; we need your help to make this work!  We don’t have corporate sponsorship or a professional PR team promoting us.  We need you to tell everyone, share our posts, share our stream, post our logo/link to us wherever you can, and definitely become an active member whenever we have a contest, call-in, or any other type of interactive forum.  We want you to help us bring back that community spirit, and that starts with you, the listener.
