Primavera Sound

Combine an ecletic mix of music and people, host in an unconventional venue, leave to cook for 3 days in fantastic weather and you’ve got Barcelona’s Primavera Sound, a festival as great as the city that hosted it.

Artists ranged from Ghostface Killah to Neil Young via a sizeable number of top-notch Electro artists, and while there isn’t time or space to give a complete lo-down of the three days here are my highlights and a few songs worth a listen.

James Ford and James Anthony Shaw, otherwise known as Simian Mobile Disco provided a thumping set with the crowd going predictably wild for favourites such as Hustler (worth posting a link just for the video):

However my personal highlight was the final act on Saturday: DJ Mehdi. One of the best in the Ed Banger stable. He sat just to the left of Feadz as his label-mate closed out his own storming set. Maybe he was sizing up the crowd, psyching himself up or doing a bit of both, either way when he played boy did he play! Not only a great mixture of electro and hip-hop beats, a blend that gives him unique appeal and one that he’s built his reputation on. He also showed he’s got great range and threw in remixes of all sorts of unexpected things (including some storming techno). Here are some more videos to back me up.
